ORCHESTRAL

Music critics have called Phil’s playing:

“ravishing, elegant, breath-taking, fearless,” and even “fly-ass”!

Phil has served as a professional symphony oboist for over twelve seasons. He was appointed Principal Oboe of the Annapolis Opera Orchestra in 2001, won Solo English horn positions with the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra and Midland Symphony Orchestra in 2002, and won Second Oboe/English horn with the Traverse Symphony in 2005. Since then, Phil has performed with the Hollywood Chamber, Santa Monica, New World, Grand Rapids, and South Bend Symphony Orchestras and his playing has been featured on NPR’s Performance Today. In any given season, Phil appears with 4-5 symphonies. From 2005-2011, he was a contracted/core member of three symphonies simultaneously!

In 2011, Phil moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television music but has kept active in the orchestras in Southern California as well as keeping his appointment as Solo English horn with the West Michigan Symphony.

In 2013, Phil released his excerpt book OUR TIME: The Best Oboe and English Horn Solos You’re NOT Playing. Its goal is to bring new masterpieces into the standard repertoire rotations!
